Melanie Morton, SC Music Lessons LLC Instructor - Pianist and Vocalist
Tom, a native of the South Carolina Lowcountry, has been teaching piano since 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and Fine Arts and taught general classroom music for 25 years to students in grades K4-6.

Additionally, he has had a career as a professional pianist and organist that has spanned five decades. From 1986-1992, he was a featured artist in the Piccolo Spoleto  Festival of Churches concert series. He was coordinator of the Noon Concert Series at St. Luke's Chapel on the campus of MUSC and founder and director of Third Sunday at Three Concert Series from 2008-2020.

Currently, he is Director of Music at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, SC and appears weekly as solo pianist at both Charleston Place Belmond Hotel and the Francis Marion Hotel both in downtown Charleston.

Tom has made guest appearances around the world, including New York City, Las Vegas, Maui, London, Paris, San Antonio, Savannah, and St. Augustine. He is a member in good standing with The American Guild of Organists, Music Teachers National Association, South Carolina Music Teachers Association and Charleston Music Teachers Association.

Tom's Teaching Style:

"I have learned during the course of my 44 year tenure as an instructor of keyboard instruments that no two students learn at the same rate or in the same way. I believe that there is no one size fits all approach to teaching.

I customize my curriculum to meet the needs of each individual student. While for basic technique, theory and keyboard harmony, I stick closely to the method books, I have students play supplemental repertoire that fits their personal tastes.

I strongly believe that if the student, regardless of age or level of capability, enjoys the music, practice will be a pleasure rather than a chore and progress will be attained faster."
