Olivia grew up in Charlotte, NC where she started playing viola at age 11. She always knew that she wanted to play a stringed instrument after growing up hearing stories about her grandfather's talent for fiddling. After a string quartet came to play for her school and she heard a viola for the first time, she knew she had found her calling.
After playing viola through both middle and high school, Olivia went on to study Music Education at the University of South Carolina where she taught group classes and private lessons as a UofSC String Project teacher. After graduating, Olivia continued to teach private lessons, has served as a middle school orchestra director in Dorchester School District Two, and an elementary school strings director in Charleston County School District.
Olivia has also served as a sectional coach and clinician for strings programs throughout South Carolina. Currently Olivia plays with North Charleston Pops and Summerville Orchestra locally as well as Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach.
Olivia's Teaching Style: "I teach using various solo and etude books to help students become successful musicians who enjoy their craft. I spend the first lesson assessing the student's ability level and collaborating with the student and parent to determine what goals they would like to meet while studying with me. These goals can include but are not limited to: learning to play an instrument for the first time, working towards an audition for one of the many wonderful programs offered in the Lowcountry, or simply getting extra help with their school orchestra music. I have experience with and enjoy teaching both violin and viola students!"
