Nikolai Svishev, SC Music Lessons LLC Instructor - Guitarist
Marissa is a professional musician specializing in flute, harp, piano, and voice, teaching beginning to intermediate lessons for all of those instruments. She has experience teaching students ages 5-85 and has also worked with students that have special needs.

Marissa has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication-Theatre Arts from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a minor in Musical Theatre and has been performing since she was 10 years old.

Marissa absolutely loves music and wherever she has lived she works to teach and share that love with the world. She grew up in Minneapolis in a very musical family surrounded by easy access to performing opportunities, then moved to Wyoming in 2010 where she had to grow and adapt her skills to fit the less classical musical climate!
From classical to celtic, beatles to broadway, sacred, contemporary and gospel, Marissa covers all the musical bases. Additionally, Marissa has worked as an accompanist for solo musicians and singers, and elementary, high school, and church choirs. She has also served as the contemporary worship leader, choir director and bell choir director for the Riverton United Methodist Church, and the Pavilion Community Church, and has served on the worship team, leading worship at every church she’s attended since 2010.

Finally, is an accomplished theatrical performer, having performed in over 29 productions over the years, and worked as the musical director, accompanist, orchestra conductor, assistant director and assistant choreographer for the Central Wyoming College theatre program from 2014-2021.

Marissa loves working with young performers honing their skills and growing their love for the arts! Her vocal students have achieved high scores at Wyoming vocal contests, gained all state choir acceptance, and landed leading roles in their high school, college and professional auditions!

Marissa's Teaching Style

"My teaching style is very laid back. My biggest goal, especially for young students, is to grow their love for playing whatever instrument they have chosen. I don’t want a student to ever dread coming to lessons, but look forward to their time with me making music each week. I will work with students at their level and tailor their music lesson to their learning style, and their goals. Practicing is very important for any learner, and I encourage at least some daily practice.

Many kids these days are so over-scheduled that music practice becomes the last priority, but you can’t improve if lesson day is only the second time you’ve practiced a piece in a week! I’m a firm believer that students should learn to read notes, even if they are just a singer. There are far too many vocalists out there who can’t practice their pieces at home without a recording, and I hope to add some more note reading singers to the world! I am a stickler for scales, exercises and rhythm reading, so be prepared to play a piece for a while before passing it because the rhythm must be correct!

I am very excited to be a part of the SC Music Lessons team, helping grow the future music makers of the world!"
