Abby Bryant, SC Music Lessons LLC Instructor - Violinist

Lidia desired to start violin as soon as she discovered it at the age of four. One year later, her parents enrolled her at a Suzuki studio, which soon became her world. The Suzuki violin method requires intense technical training and long practice hours.

In middle school, Lidia started participating in her local county orchestra and was blessed to be chosen as concertmaster for the Greenville Youth Symphony her freshman year. The next year, she went on to play in the South Carolina State Orchestra.

One thing Lidia loved doing throughout her high school years was playing in her church orchestra. This was her favorite form of “making a joyful noise unto the Lord.”
Lidia began her studies at Liberty University with a degree in special education. While studying abroad in Ecuador, she discovered a violin studio right below where she would be living for five months. After speaking to the owner, she was offered a position as a private instructor. With a whole new zeal, she quickly fell back in love with the violin. Teaching others opened up a new perspective on the world of music. She loved experiencing the emotions of her students falling in love with music themselves.

When she returned to the States, she quickly added music studies to her education program and started playing for the Liberty University Orchestra. This past year, Lidia moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and began to immerse herself in the Lowcountry music scene. Lidia currently teaches with Little Mozarts after-school program in bilingual middle schools. She is also pursuing a bachelor's in English and music education online at Liberty University.

Lidia's Teaching Style

"It is very important to me that my students love the violin as much as I do. In the music world, burnout can come quickly if a genuine love for what you’re doing is absent. I know firsthand what that feels like and never want my students to grow tired or bitter toward their instrument. To help prevent this, I make it a priority for my students to know they can have fun, try new things, and make mistakes while still working hard and dedicating time and effort to their musical pursuits. It quickly becomes obvious when a musician lacks passion for what they are doing. A good teacher can recognize this and attempt to reignite interest through passion, heart, and soul.

Another important element of my teaching style is repetition and consistent practice. Shinichi Suzmuki once said, “Knowledge is not skill. Knowledge plus ten thousand times is skill.” When learning a new technique, repetition is essential for developing proper form, building muscle memory, and preventing injury. One of the greatest violinists of all time, Jascha Heifetz, famously said, “If I don’t practice one day, I know it; two days, the critics know it; three days, the public knows it.” Likewise, John P. Beddoes Sr. said, “Behind every beautiful violin solo is a thousand hours of imperfection.” Through practice comes discipline, confidence, achievement, and the ability to advance to new skills.

My goal as a teacher is not only to help students become strong musicians, but also to help them develop a lifelong love and appreciation for music."
