Music has always been a huge part of my life. From the time I was a little girl I was fascinated with all musical instruments, but especially the piano. When I was 4 years old, my parents decided to enroll me in private piano lessons. My teacher instilled in me the joy of learning by her enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement to learn various styles of music. Of course, getting a piece of candy for completing assignments didn’t hurt either!
My childhood was filled with diverse music experiences which all strengthened my skills and prepared me to be accepted into the Horton School of Music at Charleston Southern University. During my collegiate years, I had the opportunity to take private piano lessons, accompany vocal students, serve as jazz band pianist, participate in the ladies’ vocal ensemble (Bel Canto), and perform as Reno in Anything Goes. In 2012 I competed in Miss Charleston Southern in which I was honored to win the talent portion of the pageant with a jazzy rendition of George Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm." In 2014 I graduated summa cum laude from Charleston Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in music therapy with a minor in psychology. Although the program was challenging, my knowledge of, experience with, and passion for music grew tremendously during this time. Following graduation I decided to stay here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina; I truly love this area and the people who live here. In 2016 I launched Lowcountry Pianist & Company LLC which provides live music services for our community. During the first three years alone we had over 1200 performances and we can't wait to see what is still ahead! Over the past 8 years I have taught students ranging in age from 5 to 75 and discovered my love for training the next generation of pianists. My music therapy, performing, and teaching experiences have introduced me to incredibly talented musicians who have formed the SC Music Lessons LLC team. "Due to my background in music therapy, child development, and psychology, I have developed an eclectic style of teaching, recognizing the individuality of each student and catering my teaching style to the student’s needs. All beginner students initially work through a beginner curriculum(s). With time, students are able to choose genres of music in which they would like to focus a portion of their lesson. Fundamental musical concepts are reinforced during lessons by using engaging activities to teach and assess the student’s learning through repetition exercises, body percussion activities, theory worksheets and note-recognition games."
