After leaving the city of Charleston, which provided so many opportunities to study and play both classical music and other genres of music, Ellie attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During her four years there, she earned a bachelors of violin performance under Kevin Lawrence, played in orchestra and opera orchestras, and studied chamber music, while taking all standard academic and music classes.
After graduation, she went to University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and studied violin performance under Sally O'Reilly. Additionally, Ellie also became certified in the Suzuki Program under Mark Bjork. |
After graduating and moving back to Charleston, she started a private teaching studio. Currently, Ellie teaches in multiple locations throughout the Lowcountry. Ellie holds a tenured position in the South Carolina Philharmonic in Columbia and also plays with the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach. Additionally, she enjoys playing a variety of styles of music with local bands including bluegrass, rock and roll, country, Irish and Americana music.

Ellie's Teaching Style:
"From a young age, I have been very fortunate in being exposed to a wide array of musical styles. Starting with a Suzuki background and classical technique allowed me to then further explore how to expand my violin playing into different realms. While attending graduate school, I obtained certification for all ten Suzuki violin books. Over the past several years, I have worked to teach classical technique and music reading while also catering to the musical interests of students. I encourage the student to share music with me they that enjoy and incorporate it into lessons when applicable."
