Claire is a musician and board-certified music therapist. She graduated from Appalachian State University in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy as a voice principle. Claire received her certification, MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified), in January 2009 and has also completed advanced training in Neonatal Intensive Care Music Therapy, as well as a fellowship in Neurologic Music Therapy.

Claire served as the Coordinator of Music Therapy for 9 years at a local Charleston hospital where she provided music therapy services for a variety of clients, including those in the Neonatal Intensive Care, pediatrics, oncology, general/medical, surgical, intensive care, ortho/neuro, and hospice units. Additionally, Claire served as the certified Clinical Training Director for 6 years, supervising and mentoring over 13 music therapy interns.

Since 2018, she has provided music therapy as a Community Support Specialist with Wounded Warriors. Additionally, she offers music entertainment services for a variety of private events and local healthcare facilities. (Learn more about Claire's performance work here).

Claire is passionate about the creative arts and having a career that ties in some of her favorite qualities: music, healing, performance, mentorship, and self-care. Due to her background in music therapy, students who have additional emotional or psychological needs are 100% welcome. From anxiety and low self-esteem to those navigating through divorce, bullying or trauma, Claire provides therapeutic support and a deeper emphasis on music as a coping skill and tool for healing.

Claire's Teaching Style:

"Music has always been a vital and irreplaceable part of my life. I have done it all... church choir, orchestra, band, classical competitive singing, musical theater, music therapy, you name it. Oh yea, and my all-time favorite past time, singing in the car as loud as humanly possible!

But despite our connection, music and I haven't always been the best of friends. As a child, I unfortunately developed some deep rooted insecurities from the method of training I received. There were stringent rules to be followed, concerns with proper body type, brutal critiques from judges, and rules that quite frankly took the fun out of music. It took many years for me to work through these insecurities and find my way back my true inner artist.

That's why I have developed a holistic approach to music education, allowing students to tap into whats fun and vibrant about learning music, to find what they themselves are capable of as musicians, and to give them the skills to use music in healthy, expressive, and proficiently creative ways."
