Andrew is a musician and songwriter from Charleston, SC. He grew up in a musical household and began singing in church and school at an early age. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance from Clemson University in 2012 and has been playing guitar and piano for over 10 years.
He has collaborated on several recording projects for local churches and bands in the Charleston area, and currently writes and performs with his band Saint Jermaine. Music is his creative outlet for sharing emotion, telling stories, processing grief and unraveling stress. He finds joy in teaching, opening the world of music, creativity and expression to beginners and seasoned musicians alike! |
Andrew's Teaching Style:
Andrew has formal training in traditional music theory and contemporary pop-music. His guitar teaching focuses on a blend of traditional theory and contemporary chord-number systems. He is also capable of teaching finger-style guitar picking if students are interested.
Focuses include:
✔ Developing foundational rhythm for strumming
✔ Learning basic chord shapes on guitar that promote further understanding of the guitar fretboard.
✔ Breakdown of contemporary/pop song structure, simplifying the learning process for any song and developing ear training for chord progressions and melodies in songs.
✔ Learning proper guitar maintenance.
More advanced learning includes:
✔ Nashville numbers system/music theory for playing in different keys and breakdown of chord structure and melodies.
✔ Fingerstyle guitar-picking: how to pick chord shapes and melodies with your fingers.
✔ Songwriting and arranging, and composition.
